Popular voice artist Mona Ghosh, who has dubbed for stars like Rani Mukerji, Bipasha Basu, Ameesha Patel, Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Nargis Fakhri in their early careers, recently shared how these actresses have reacted differently to her work.
In an interview with The Motor Mouth, Mona revealed that Bipasha Basu once jokingly said, “I’ll kill you if you dub for me again,” after she dubbed for her in films like Raaz and Jism. "But she doesn’t realise that it’s not my decision. I don’t go asking ‘can I dub for Bipasha?’ If someone comes to me, it’s my profession, why will I say no?” she added.
She also mentioned that Rani Mukerji disliked her voice being dubbed in Ghulam and has openly expressed her dissatisfaction in interviews. "It was a very different voice “which is why she hates it, in every interview she says ‘I hate it’. I totally understand because I think we are so used to our own voice that if someone else starts talking with our face on top, we will feel it is odd. We will feel like who is this? So it’s understandable,” she said.
On the other hand, some actresses appreciated her work. Nargis Fakhri, for example, praised Mona’s dubbing in Rockstar. “She came and hugged me and she was like ‘oh my god, it’s fantastic what you have done,’” Mona recalled.

Mona explained that during a time when many models were transitioning into acting, dubbing was necessary since they didn’t always have enough time for voice training. Mona also dubbed for Ameesha Patel in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Deepika Padukone in Om Shanti Om, and Katrina Kaif in Rajneeti, Sarkar and Humko Deewana Kar Gaye.
